10th February 2020
Wightlink is partnering with Portsmouth’s New Theatre Royal to support its event The Problem with Plastic (and what to do with it) on Thursday 13 February 2020.
The ferry company’s sponsorship will enable 30 families from the Charles Dickens and St Thomas wards of Portsmouth to come along to the evening presentation and learn more about the dangers posed by unwanted plastic in the environment. It is the first event of the Festival of the Sea 2020.
Scott Ramsay, Director and CEO of New Theatre Royal says: “We are delighted to welcome Wightlink as sponsors for The Problem with Plastic (and what to do about it).
“We have a particular responsibility to our oceans as the UK’s only island city. Our Festival of the Sea 2020 has been carefully curated to not only celebrate our relationship with the waters that surround us but to empower and equip our communities to protect them and we’re looking forward to working in partnership with Wightlink to achieve this.”
The event will feature talks by leading environmental experts and Portsmouth sailor Geoff Holt, who founded WetWheels, a charity that takes disabled people sailing.
Wightlink Chief Executive Keith Greenfield says: “Environmental matters are key to Wightlink. We operate England’s first hybrid energy ferry – Victoria of Wight – and always endeavour to do our best to protect the sea, land and air that surround us. We are pleased to inspire the next generation to tackle marine pollution and look after the marine environment.”
